SUT Workshop Design and Reliability of Offshore Geo-Structures
Design and Reliability of Offshore Geo- Structures Workshop
Risk management is an important skill needed throughout all aspects of geotechnical engineering. Most decisions need to be made without knowing for certain how those decisions will play out. This one-day course will provide practical tools to make, analyze, and communicate risk-based decisions. It will also incorporate case histories and audience participation.

Date:
August 21, 2017: 8:00am-5:00pm (CDT)
Venues: FORUM GEMS
10344 Sam Houston Park Drive
Houston, Texas 77064
Cost:
Members $400 & Non-Members $500

SUT COurse Integrity and Risk Assessment of Pipelines
Integrity and Risk Assessment of Pipeline and SCRs
Delivering safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions to complex and challenging problems is the ultimate goal in our industry. Currently, the codes and standards lack specific guidance on geotechnical soil modelling for pipelines and SCRs (steel catenary risers) and strength analyses.

Therefore, SUT is organizing this 1-day workshop to provide a platform to stimulate a discussion and interaction between industry and researchers, and highlight the current state-of-practice and knowledge gaps in pipelines and SCRs.

Date:
September 29, 2017: 8:00am-4:00pm (CDT)
Venues: Stress Engineering Inc.

Experience in pipe-soil interaction: physical testing and modelling, and design analysis
The variability of seabed and surface soil properties impacts the performance (and hence design) of offshore pipelines. It is important to quantify the variabilities in seabed features and properties, and pipe-seabed interaction characteristics along the pipeline route.

This presentation will outline different aspects of quantifying the variabilities in surface soils via testing and modelling (physical and analytical).

Date:
August 29, 2017: 8:30am - 9:30am (CDT)
Webinar-Only Event

Webinar: Members $25 & Non-members $30

MASW for Offshore Wind Turbine Site Characterization
MASW for Offshore Wind Turbine Site Characterization
The multichannel analysis of surface wave (MASW) method, originally developed for land applications, provides shear-wave velocity (Vs) of near-surface materials (≤ 50 m). Vs is the key parameter for shear modulus, which is one of the best indicators of materials' stiffness.

This is why the method has been so widely used for diverse geotechnical engineering projects on land. Thanks to the strong nature of surface waves (ground roll), data acquisition is highly effective and the subsequent data analysis becomes simple and easy, rendering it a non-expert method.

Date:
September 26, 2017: 7:30am - 8:30am (CDT)
Venue: Chevron

SUT The Art of Whisky Tasting
The Art of Whisky Tasting
Come delight the flavors of Scotland's legendary drink, and enjoy an introductory presentation and a whisky sampling entitled, 'Unusual Whisky Finishes' by Dr. Craig Shipp, a Scotch whisky enthusiast and member of SUT.

In this tasting we’ll explore the tastes of less common cast finishes (e.g., port, rum, various wines, etc.) beyond the more typical aging of whisky in previous bourbon and sherry casts.

There are limited tasting seats available for this event, so registration in advance is required.
